New Italian book claims 3rd Fatima secret still hidden

This new development is most interesting . . .

Rome, Nov. 22 (CWNews.com) - A new book entitled The Fourth Secret of Fatima, by Italian writer Antonio Socci, questions whether a part of the message delivered by the Virgin Mary to the children at Fatima have been hidden by Church leaders for diplomatic reasons.

Socci claims that the famous "third secret," which was revealed in 1995 to describe an attack on a “bishop dressed in white,” is only a fragment of the full message. Socci bases his claim primarily on an analysis of the books Faith Report by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, and Crossing the Threshold of Hope, by Pope John Paul II (bio - news). To a lesser extent he analyzes homilies, discourses, and public documents by the two Pontiffs.

It is of course related to the 'is the consecration of Russia done' debate.

Well respected locutionist Fr. Stefano Gobbi, the founder of the 55,000 strong Mariam Movement of Priests (MMP) doubted it publicly, although many do not know this.

In Fatima on May 13, 1990 (6 years after the 1984 consecration) Message #425 para c to Fr. Gobbi states:"Russia has not been consecrated to me by the Pope together with all the bishops, and thus she has not received the grace of conversion and has spread her errors throughout all parts of the world, provoking wars, violence, bloody revolutions and persecutions of the Church and the Holy Father."

In Ottawa, Ontario on June 10, 1987 (3 years after the 1984 consecration) Message #356 para e to Fr. Gobbi states:"It will moreover be particularly important for the development of the great events which have been foretold to you by me if, during this year, there be at last carried out my request, made to my daughter, Sister Lucia of Fatima, that Russia be consecrated to me by the pope together with all the bishops of the world."

In Milan Italy, May 13, 1987 (3 years after the 1984 consecration) Message #351 para e to Fr. Gobbi states:"My request that Russia be consecrated to me, by the Pope together with all the bishops, has not been accepted, and thus she has spread her errors in every part of the world."

My doubt stems from the very interview with "Sr. Lucia" by Carlos Evaristo which you sent me along with your letter as evidence for the consecration having been accepted. My reasons for doubting this interview's truth come directly from the Vatican itself. The day after the report from Evaristo was re-released in 1998 the Holy See Press Office Director Joaquin Navarro-Valls issued a statement rejecting the interview as "neither true nor credible".

The Holy See was objecting specifically to the portion of the interview where Sr. Lucia is supposed to have told Evaristo that "when he (Gorbachev) visited the Holy Father in Rome he knelt at his feet and asked pardon for all the crimes he had committed in his life." (from the interview you sent) Navarro-Valls countered "I can confirm that the reference made to Gorbachev during the audience which the Holy Father granted him in December of 1989 does not correspond with reality. The gesture which - in the advance reports on this interview that appeared today in the press - is attributed to Gorbachev, is neither true nor credible."

Since the Vatican itself objected to the truth of this interview, how can we base our rejection of Fr. Gobbi's messages on it? Why would someone fabricate an interview such as this? Is it not possible it was done in order to cause 'confusion' and thus to stifle or prevent or delay the consecration of Russia, which is yet to come? Moreover, if the consecration were done and finished I find it strange that the Pope has never publicly stated to all the members of the Church that he has performed the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

A final proof for me that the consecration has NOT been done acceptably is the unfulfilled promise of Our Lady that Russia would be converted. Some suggest that the "collapse of Communism" after the 1984 consecration ceremony shows that Russia is beginning to convert and that the consecration must have been effective, despite its failure to mention Russia and of the collegial consecration.

However, in 1997 Russia enacted legislation which discriminates against the Catholic Church and in favor of Russian Orthodoxy, Judaism, Islam and Buddhism. Catholic parishes are required to apply for an annual "registration" which can be revoked at will by any local bureaucrat, while priests and nuns are given only three-month visas which cannot be renewed. The Vatican has condemned the new law as a great setback for the Church in Russia.

Even the Russian Orthodox patriarch, Alexi II, publicly admitted on December 24, 1998, that since the supposed "fall of communism" in Russia, Christian culture "is not only being pushed into the background and oblivion, but is also being mocked and ridiculed ... as something extinct and unnecessary." Alexi also decried the "rise of neo-paganism ... totalitarian sects, black magic practitioners, astrologers, and occultists" in "post-communist" Russia.

Most telling of all: Since the "consecration" of 1984, more than 600 million children have been slaughtered in the womb around the world-including Russia, where legalized abortion began. Thus, I believe that the period of peace promised by Our Lady if Russia were properly consecrated has yet to occur. The conversion of Russia promised by Our Lady of Fatima has simply not happened.

This can only mean that the consecration has not been done, for Our Lady's promises cannot be false.

STATEMENTS BY HOLY SEE PRESS OFFICE DIRECTOR

VATICAN CITY, MAR 2, 1998 (VIS) - Holy See Press Office Director Joaquin Navarro-Valls made the following statements at noon today:With regard to certain advance excerpts of an interview done with Sr. Lucia, the only living witness of the apparitions at Fatima, which refer to Mikhail Gorbachev, the Press Office director said the following: "We have not yet read this interview, whose original text has not yet been published. However, I can confirm that the reference made to Gorbachev during the audience which the Holy Father granted him in December of 1989 does not correspond with reality. The gesture which - in the advance reports on this interview that appeared today in the press - is attributed to Gorbachev, is neither true nor credible." As regards a possible sojourn next summer for the Holy Father in Val Camonica, in the mountains of northern Italy, Navarro-Valls said that "nothing has been decided yet about this. Therefore, any anticipation is out of place." OP/STATEMENTS/NAVARRO-VALLS VIS 980302 (170)
